Return to Learn: Thank You

Dear Student,

Thank you for participating in UC San Diego’s Return to Learn program. With your help, our team of clinicians, molecular biologists, technologists, infectious disease experts, bioinformatics specialists, disease modelers, and public health experts successfully screened 1,578 students for the virus that causes COVID-19. Notably, not a single student tested positive during the initial three-week screening period.

We learned a great deal that will help going forward. Testing was fast. On average, the entire sampling process took just seven minutes, from start to finish. Feedback from participants revealed that nasal swab testing, while not as uncomfortable as imagined, is not preferred. As a result, we are assessing the viability of a saliva-based test at the UC San Diego Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine.

Because of your help, UC San Diego is closer to being able to screen a greater number of students, faculty and staff moving forward. Thank you for helping make the campus a safer place for students, faculty and staff.

As a reminder, if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or questions related to your medical care, please contact Student Health Services at 858-534-3300 or the SHS Advice Nurse through MyStudentChart.
