OASIS Hope Scholars Student Program Coordinator / STDT 4

Department Overview:

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Hope Scholars Program Coordinator, the Hope Scholars Student Coordinator is responsible for providing support for both the operations of the unit, events and programs, and for the student team of peer mentors throughout the academic year. The role of the Hope Scholars Program Student Coordinator is to familiarize themselves with all aspects of the program (planning, programming, disciplinary policies and procedures) and serve as a resource to student staff, professional staff and participants in the program as needed. The Student Coordinator will support the day-to-day office operations by developing an operations manual for the office and administrative duties such as welcoming/checking in students for appointments, copying, mailing. Event and program support may include scheduling student staff to assist, developing marketing and/or program materials for distribution at events, managing social media accounts to advertise/publicize events and activities, and summarizing post event feedback to inform future programming. Student Coordinator may also provide work direction to peer mentors and assist in developing a work schedule as needed.

Job Responsibilities:
·        In collaboration with the Hope Scholars Program Coordinator, assist in developing, planning and executing events and activities. May be asked to order supplies, AV equipment, secure room reservations, make name badges, etc.
·        Create and update Hope Scholars publications to include flyers, newsletter, marketing materials, website and social media accounts for use in promoting events and activities.
·        Lead scheduling and training for student peer mentors, and participate in recruitments of student staff as requested.
·        Perform day-to-day office clerical duties that support office operations such as filing, copying, mailing, shredding once duties are performed on campus.
·        Attend events and activities hosted by Hope Scholars and may include set-up and clean-up. Events will be virtual while remote.
·        May be asked to serve on panels and present at Hope Scholars functions as their schedule permits.

Qualifications:
-     Must be a current Hope Scholar or student with a background in/understanding of/or experience working with foster care, homelessness, formerly incarcerated or disconnected youth.
-     Must have knowledge and/or experience of campus programs and resources to provide successful referrals and make connections for students.
-     Excellent communication skills, public speaking, in order to represent the Hope Scholars Program to the community at UC San Diego.
-     Previous experience working with a team; have the ability to work both as an independent contributor and as part of a work team.
-     Computer experience to include using Microsoft Office programs.
-     Must be a self-starter who can adhere to deadlines related to on-going programming through the academic year.
-     Must be punctual, dependable, responsible and perform work responsibilities with a professional demeanor, recognizing that they represent OASIS in their work.
-     Presentation skills and experience conducting workshops and seminars.
-     Must be aware of and able to recognize and respond to students in need of additional assistance; provide appropriate referrals to University resources.
-     Organizational skills with ability to set priorities, manage to deadlines and goals.
-     Must be interested in being part of programming, activities and initiatives which promote student success.

Must pay UCSD student services fees each quarter working. (Must have paid SP 2021 UCSD student services fees or be a new or readmit for FA 2021 to work summer).

Special Conditions: Remote work ability - must be able to perform duties from within the US.
